WhereHOW TO GET TO COFFEE SHACK FROM CURIOCITY JOBURG
Coffee Shack is located in Coffee Bay, a very small hamlet / village on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. You can get to Coffee Bay and Coffee Shack via different means of transport. If you do not self-drive, you usually have to get to Mthatha or Umtata (old spelling) first.
Mthatha is our nearest town, 100 km away; East London is 285 km away by road.
Please ask the office if you have a transport problem, we may have a solution for you.
COFFEE SHACK SHUTTLE TO & FROM MTHATHA
Departs Coffee Bay once a day, between 11H00 and 12H00 to the Shell Ultra City garage, Mthatha
Returns between 14H30 and 15H30, once all booked passengers have arrived
Airport pick-ups must be pre-arranged and it is recommended to book if are not using the Baz Bus
Runs every day (except 1st January each year)
Coffee Shack guests always have first priority
BUSES
There are a variety of buses which you can use to get to Mthatha from all over South Africa
Passengers must get off at the Shell Ultra City garage stop, on the south side of Mthatha, not in town
Passengers must plan to arrive in Mthatha, between 12H30 and 15H30, if they want to use the shuttle
We recommend the “Baz Bus”, a “Hop on, Hop off” Backpacker Bus for convenience
Other mainline buses which run to Mthatha include Intercape, and Greyhound amongst others
SELF DRIVE
We strongly recommend not using a GPS; there are excellent directions on the Coffee Shack website
Road down from the N2 is 85km, and takes about 1 ½ hours, and is sealed/paved/tarred to Coffee Bay.
Plan to arrive in day light hours due to the potholes and animals on the road.

FLYING
MTHATHA / UMTATA AIRPORT
This the nearest airport to Coffee Bay, and if you book your flight to arrive at the correct time of day, the Coffee Shack shuttle can be arranged to pick you up or drop you. There are flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg to Mthatha, by South African Airways (SAA).
Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, First Car and Sixt Hire Cars have desks at Mthatha airport. It is advised you book a vehicle in advance, as they do not keep a big stock.
EAST LONDON AIRPORT
Currently “Safair,” Kulula and SAA fly to East London; there are flights from Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Port Elisabeth.
“Around About Cars”, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, First Car, Rhino and Sixt Hire Cars can provide you with cars at East London airport. "Around About Cars" must be booked in advance
It is three and half (3 ½) hours’ drive to Coffee Bay or you can catch a bus from East London to Mthatha
